Project overview
On behalf of Marti AG, Itenbau AG carried out the staged insertion of the tunnel boring machine “Paulina” to the tunnel face. The TBM, with a cutter-head diameter of 12.39 metres, a length of around 100 metres and a total weight of approx. 2,000 tonnes, was moved over a distance of about 100 metres. Insertion was performed using a walking mechanism developed by Itenbau AG; the cutter head weighed around 1,500 tonnes.
Challenges Particularly demanding was the move under simultaneous gradient and on a curved alignment.
