Project overview:
The historic station building had tilted sideways during the course of new construction work. First, the building was secured laterally using a prestressed steel corset/bracing structure. Afterwards, we were able to stabilize the building using our pressed pile system and lift and realign it using hydraulic jacks.
Following the successful alignment, the building was permanently secured with a massive concrete tie beam.
We executed all work entirely with our own personnel, from the steel bracing, cutting and drilling work, pressed piles, and alignment to the construction of the concrete tie beam.
Challenges:
Heavily frequented rail traffic had to be guaranteed at all times throughout the entire duration of the work. At the same time, the very tight space conditions in the basement and the low ceiling height required special solutions for executing the work.
