Project overview

As part of the expansion of the OYM Hall in Zug, we raised the approximately 550-tonne stadium roof on one side by 4.08 meters. Using our new real-time monitoring system, the 29 jacks deployed could be precisely monitored for stroke/distance and force at all times.

Thanks to thorough preparation, planning, and excellent collaboration with the responsible structural engineer Jürg Ingold from Wismer und Partner, falsework specialist Lars Moser from Roth Gerüste, and steel construction contractor Christian Aerni from the Wetter Gruppe, we successfully lifted the entire stadium roof within just one day. This bought valuable extra time for the extremely tight schedule.

Challenges

Because the roof was lifted by 4.08 meters on one side and its slope continuously changed as a result, special articulation joints had to be installed at the lifting points. This ensured that the jacks remained in the correct position throughout the entire lifting process.

Particular attention had to be paid to horizontal forces, which are difficult to predict in windy conditions and especially during storms. Therefore, special safety measures were put in place so that the roof could be secured within minutes if necessary.

Close and excellent collaboration between the engineer, general builder/masonry contractor, steel contractor, falsework specialist, and site management was crucial for successful implementation. Only through the precise coordination of all parties involved could this demanding lifting process be carried out safely and within the tight schedule.
